At our warehouse in Arundel (QLD, Gold Coast) we can make any end termination to the ropes required. A conventional splice in a simple laid rope but also in an eight or twelve strand plaited construction can be spliced. Next to that we make splices in parallel laid cores with an overbraided jacket. Lankhorst has developed a new splice called the A3 splice. This unprecedented method of splicing is unique in the world and has been patented by Lankhorst. The concept of the A3 splice is that the splice and the eye have been fully integrated. Years of development, and field trials, have resulted in the A3 splice, providing a 100% efficiency with no strength loss in the rope due to the splice.
Ropes are being used for different applications and need specific properties per individual project. Lankhorst can provide you with the best rope for your application; a custom made tow rope (grommet), custom made mooring ropes, ect.
Gradually, as the synthetic rope is used repeatedly, the properties in the yarns will decline. The strength of the rope will decrease and eventually the rope will break under a normal load. To avoid an unexpected break, the ropes must be inspected on a regular basis. This can be done periodically or after a pre-determined number of jobs. The intervals will depend on the circumstances in the ropes are used. Lankhorst can assist on determining the ideal inspection frequency. Furthermore Lankhorst offers the possibility to do this inspection and provide a detailed inspection report.
To assess the true state of a rope, after it has been in-service for a period of time, a full break test is recommended. This will give an indication of the ropes residual strength based on the sample piece tested. However consideration should be given to the relative condition of the test piece versus the remainder of the rope. To monitor/optimize a rope’s lifetime, Lankhorst can offer a residual testing program.
When a rope reached our factory for testing it is important to have background information of the rope. We suggest testing a rope from a vessel which is sailing in the “worst” conditions where a rope has been tested the most. Every time we take a different rope and thus in time the ropes will all have the same length again (app. 220m – 20m).
Lankhorst will annually receive a sample of the rope's end, check the strength and keep on monitoring it until rejected, in due time we will build up a record which will give you perfect insight regarding the expected lifetime of a rope.
